Alpinism & climbing
The best time of the year to practice alpinism and climbing is from beginning July until mid-September. While climbing one of the summits over 4000m, you climb on rocks, snow and ice. So, spiked boots are highly recommended. But a good physical health is also required. Mountain guides can easily answer all of your further questions.
Advice:
- Breithorn (4164 m): Is considered one of the easiest summits over 4000m with a 2km wide ridge.
- Matterhorn (4478 m): Very hart to ascent in between the rocks and the ice after the Hönligrat passage. Even the most experienced climbers should not climb the Matterhorn without a guide.
- Dom (4545 m): Highest summit in Switzerland, after the Hutte Dom the ascent demands a lot of strength and technique.
- Pollux (4091 m) et Castor (4223 m): called the « twin summits » are located in between the Breithorn and the Liskam, even if the Castor is located on the Italian territory.
- Via ferrata „Gorge“located in the gorges of the Gorner in between Furri (1865) and Zermatt (1620m).

Hiking
Find your way to achieve your own goals. The hiking trails and the themed trails allow you to access the high points of the Matterhorn Paradise. You will be able to discover the alpine pasture, the mountain lakes, the larch forests but also sculptures and true works of art. And most importantly a magnificent panorama.
If you want to approach the legendary Matterhorn, follow the Hörnli trail toward the Hörnli Hutte, and discover the unavoidable Matterhorn base camp. In the summertime, you can watch alpinists climb the Hörnligrat.

Winter and snow shoeing trails
The snow shoeing outings allows you to do more demanding hikes in winter. By these means you can discover, from Rotenboten to Fiffelberg, the Riffel lake under its winter coat and ice. You might also get the chance to meet chamois that never fail to be elegant and careless on the White Magic Trail from Schwarzsee going back to Furi. From the Gornergrat you can follow the train on 1.7km until Rotenboden, it is a hike that is available to several and always stunningly beautiful.
